Tender Mercies
In English 101 today, we read Elder Bednar's article "Tender Mercies of the Lord" and after being given 15 minutes to do so, we were asked to write something about it. This is what I wrote:
The first thing that stood out to me as I read Elder Bednar's talk was the different types of Tender Mercies that are bestowed upon us. I have head the terms Tender Mercies together before, but was not aware of what they were or how they are distributed. This talk was a clear and moving way to be let in on those two unanswered thoughts of mine. Blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts were the examples of Tender Mercies stated in Elder Bednar's talk. I stopped as I finished that sentence to do a quick review of my life. My parents stood out immediately as something I believe is really a Tender Mercy in my life. The fact that I was born to them and grew up with them around everyday seems just normal but after reading this talk I know it was for a purpose and great thought was put into that "match making" process before I came to earth. Other examples given of tender mercies were repentance, forgiveness of sins, peace of conscience, the persistence and the fortitude that enable us to press forward with cheerfulness through physical limitations and spiritual difficulties. After I read that group of special gifts also granted to us from the Lord I thought of other important people in my life. I definitely wouldn't feel the same cheerfulness and peace without these important people in my life.
Elder Bednar said, "When words cannot provide the solace we need or express the joy we feel, when it is simply futile to attempt to explain that which is unexplainable, when logic and reason cannot yield adequate understanding about the injustices and inequities of life, when mortal experience and evaluation are insufficient to produce a desired outcome, and when it seems that perhaps we are so totally alone, truly we are blessed by the tender mercies of the Lord and made mighty even unto the power of deliverance" (emphasis added). I so believe that to be flaming with truth and I certainly have experienced that in different times during my short life so far. The Lord wants to send these tender mercies to come waltzing through our lives every day but it is only those who determine if they are willing to be worthy of them. By our actions we are deciding if we deserve the great blessings. We are not chosen by Him, we search within ourselves, and by our actions show that we know we should be chosen to receive the things he has in store for us personally.
"Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen? Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men"

Christmas Break: Day 0 and 1
So it's almost 4am on my clock, I'm way tired. Well since I still have over 2 and a half hours till my next flight, I decided to get internet and since I just realized nobody would be awake I decided to put it to use and keep you updated on what’s going on. So yesterday [Tuesday] I had work from 8-12 so after that one of my friends dropped me off at the plaza because it was snowing, thanks jimmy! Then I started my towels and sheets in the wash. Then it was time to clean my old dorm because I had a white glove check coming up at 1:30. I cleaned, and then transferred my laundry over to the dryer and then made some hot chocolate for Melissa who would be doing my white glove check. She had a clipboard in one hand, and the HoCho in the other so I had to open stuff for her, she liked the HoCho and I passed. So we switched mail keys, and she gave me a key to my new room. I'm all moved in, just not completely organized yet. Then it was time to switch over the sheets and towels.
Right after I got back to the lobby, Mike was there to pick me up and we went to Wal-Mart, I got some magazines to read, gum for take off and landing [not to mention breath..], and some goldfish! When I got back to the plaza I added a few minutes to the dryer. Did some un-packing, not of my stuff, but I found things I brought that I didn't really need so I was trying to take as little as I could.
i had that 6 inch sub to eat for dinner which was perfect. Well that night I was so bored after showering and getting ready, so I danced. I blasted some sweet tunes, and decided I was going to make a music video, kind of. I have a video recording capability on my Mac so I just tilted the screen and had some fun. I danced for like an hour and a half. It was way fun. This way I got rid of the wiggles before being on planes and in airports for the next ten hours.
At 9:50, mike and I left for the airport. I didn't have to wait in a line to check in my bag [which was 38 pounds] or for security. I went to two wrong gates but there was NOBODY there at either. So, I, being the experienced but young traveler I am, decided to aSK! somebody =] so I went to an entire different concourse, with 20 minutes left before we boarded. I could have missed that flight if I didn't ask. I sat in seat 13C next to a really nice girl she was probably 20-23 ish. Then we arrived at Atlanta! So now I’m sitting at my CoRrEcT gate [i saw my flight pop up on the flat screen basically right above my head.
So now I have 2 hours till we board, yay.
OH! and Happy 7th Anniversary Lin and John =]

school's done
Schools done, I'm happy, actually more like ecstatic about that fact. Today in about half an hour Juliette and I will be moving her stuff into our new room. Since she leaves tomorrow, and the person currently occupying our room is the only one in there, there's a side empty for her to put her stuff in. I'm quite excited for this move. The break came with impeccably good timing, to say the least.
I know I got a C in math which I'm fine with, I worked hard on that grade, but nobody sees that but me is the problem. I have all A's and B's in my other four classes. I'm positive that next semester will look better, I got into the swing of things towards the end of the semester so I'll be more prepared now of what to expect. I took some hard classes this past semester, health is always hard for me because I don't care, but it was required, so at least it's out of the way now. Then math is always difficult for me, this was no exception, towards the end the teacher got a little lazy with his teaching so I got help from David, he helped me a lot this year. I got a 130 out of 150 on our final though, that was very shocking to me, but I'm happy with that score.
Work is going good. I like the tutoring job better than the catering at ESA, but they both bring in a good amount so I'm not complaining at all. I made my school schedule timing the same as this past semester so that it will work out the same. I work about 4-5 days a week which is perfect.
It was fun having Lindsey, John and the boys here for a bit. I went with them to Provo last Friday, the 5th and stayed till Sunday afternoon. Friday they checked in and were sleepy so they took a nap, then we went to Wal-Mart for some essentials then went to Becky's for a bit. They tried to stop by Wendy and Puni's but they weren't home. Back at the hotel they were ready to crash again, so I went out with Ali from EFY two years ago. While I was waiting for her in the lobby, I found the hotel's complimentary wassal; it was so good, almost as good as mom's. She brought two friends, it was way fun. Felt like a girls night out, got dessert, saw a dollar movie [chickflick of course] it was great. Saturday I studied some then when they got back I straightened Lin's hair for her and John's night with Wendy and Puni. They went to Olive Garden and I babysat the two older boys. Devin slept, the entire time. Infact, he fell asleep while L and J were still home, so when he woke up and they were still there he didn't even realize he took a nap. Trevor and I took pictures on my computer, played games on it too, and watched some TV. After they came back we went to W and P's place for ice cream and to visit. Sunday we went to Becky's ward for an hour then went back to the hotel so I could pack up and then they drove me back to SLC.
It since has snowed. 'Snowed during one of my classes I have on the 6th floor, looked really neat watching from an arial view. It's all melted now. When L and J came down Wednesday afternoon we put all her pics on dropshots, had a few technical difficulties, thats why there are some duplicates, and then got ready for dinner. After dinner in the Elevations restaurant in the hotel, we went to the temple to take pictures. Those are up on dropshots too, from my camera. Then we went back to the hotel to take a dip in the hot tub. That was a good way to [de]thaw after being in the cold. [btw: I always accidentally say dethaw, I don't understand why but it's annoying me.] At eleven we realized the time, so I slept at the foot of Trevor and Devin's bed that night. In the morning they dropped me off before heading to the airport and I went back to sleep in my bed. That was two nights ago.
The cafe is closed for dinner and on Sundays until we come back from the break, that's going to be annoying. grr.
Now I'm preparing for my move[i'm stoked] , my trip to PA [super stoked for that one], and laundry and packing is all I need to worry about =[
Sometime today I need to go get some quarters from the bank.
In 15 minutes Juliette is moving in to our new room! I'm going to go get ready for the day now.
Have a good weekend!

gobble.
It's been quite a while.
But I've been busy with different things.
1] School:
My classes are going good still but I’m glad to be done in two weeks. Over the break I didn’t really have any homework, which I’m glad for. Right now I’m in Aubrey’s room keeping her company while she does her homework. All I have left are 4 short papers in music [two tomorrow, two Monday], tests[math, music, health, IT, and BOM II] , service for health [Monday], and participation in music [Tuesday]. So everything’s under control. When people ask me what I want to do after I leave Utah or what I want to do with my future I’ve been replying with being a high school English teacher. That’s the decision…this week. I have my schedule for next semester all set up. I have 5 classes again. Same schedule as this semester, it has worked out really nicely with my work schedule so I didn’t want to mess anything up, ergo I kept the same times, just different classes. I’m taking COM 121 and 122, ECON 161, ENG 101, and BOM I. 4 classes on MWF and one of the COM classes is on T TH.
2] Visits:
I’m excited for Lindsey, John and the boys to come! I work Friday, the day they get here, but I have the 6th off so that I can babysit my boys =] I hope snow comes by then; we haven’t had much at all unfortunately. Looking forward to hanging out with those boys and seeing my sister and B-I-L. I’m also very excited for my visit to PA. I’m ready to get away from Salt Lake for a bit. I like it here but a break is nice. I’m still hoping my ride to the airport will be okay. Mike broke his collarbone today so I’m hoping he’ll still be able to move and drive. I’m sure I’ll be fine, though. I’m going to spend Monday the 15th cleaning out my room of stuff I wont need or things that I should get rid of since I’ll be gone so long. Most of my friends leave on the 12th so I’ll have some time to myself but I might go crazy from being bored. Who knows, maybe I’ll find something interesting to do, hopefully.
3] Work:
Work is good. I now know where things are and don’t have to ask dumb beginner questions, I’m pleased to be at that point finally. We’re ending later lately because we have to set up for the next day. So I’m getting in an extra hour, which is nice. I get one paycheck every week now because how the tutoring and catering paying schedules are set up. That’ll be nice once I get back and things are more consistent. Work is still fun. Not as fun as subway was, that was a great job. But at least I’m getting way more pay now, which is also very nice.
4] Thanksgiving:
Thanksgiving break was nice. I had a good time at the Petersons, David is a crack up still and Matt is hilarious too. I visited with jack and Marsha too. I helped with the lunch prep some and I ate some really good food. About 20 people gathered. After lunch we watched movies and then had turkey sandwiches later on. I left chocolate macadamia nuts and a thank you note before I left.

Signs of Christmas
Thanksgiving isn't even until next week and already i'm seeing signs of christmas all over. Mexicans in trees putting lights up everywhere. By the way i'm not being racist, every one of them is mexican. also the malls have christmas decorations up. wreath type things are everywhere. walmart is decked out already. people have decorated our halls with christmas stuff. i've been playing christmas music since october and i know mom and dad started before that. but i've heard the first christmas music outside of my room today. In the cafe where i am right now they have a radio station set to one that's been playing christmas classics for the few hours i've been in here atleast.
i'm still waiting on snow. its super sunny right now and 60 degrees out. i didn't wear a jacket today.
i started my new job today. its was fun. i helped Dalton with chemistry. haha it's a good review.
i have two tests tomorrow so i'm going to go study.
have a good tuesday.
